  • (10/17/07) The North American maps have been recently updated.  Fifty new states and provinces have been added.  The sources were the North American list maintained by John Morse of Clemson (with additional data of specimens at the Smithsonian Institution that were provided by the late Nancy Adams  of the Smithsonian Institution).  A 2004 publication in Banisteria by O. S. Flint Jr., R. L. Hoffman, and C. R. Parker  had 11 new records for Virginia.  O. S. Flint Jr. identified new Pennsylvania records.  If you have published new state or province records or Pennsylvania county records please send them to E. C. Masteller TREC, 301Peninsula Dr. Suite 3, Erie, PA 16506-2042.

  • (7/23/07) We have new photos up on the caddisfly site and two corrections. After some consultation it was determined that the adult photo of the Brachycentridae was incorrect and it has been replaced. The Apatanidae larvae has been removed until further notice. We have added an Agarodes sp. in the Sericostomatidae family, Lype sp. in the family Psychomyiidae , Polycentropus sp. in the Polycentropodidae and Hydroptila sp. in the family Hydroptilidae .

  • The searchable database for caddisflies and stoneflies will be updated soon

  • (5/2/6) We have added links to the searchable database on the caddisfly and stonefly home pages, which can be reached by using the navigation bar on the left.

  • (5/1/06) All maps have been updated as well as the searchable databases. The caddisflies have 4,427 records with 325 species and the stoneflies 1,844 records and 141 species.

  • (3/4/06) Two new state records of stoneflies in the families Chloroperlidae and Capniidae from 1999 collections of Scott A. Grubbs, Western Kentucky University, have been added that were obtained through personal correspondence. Additions to the caddisflies include one state record in the family Hydroptilidae - Oxyethira serrata and four new county records in various families. These were from collections by E. C. Masteller during 2005 as part of the Regional Science Consortium courses offered at the new Tom Ridge Environmental Center, maps for these will be coming soon.

  • (17/08/04) - The searchable database is coming and it will be on the web in the very near future. We (the development team) are going to preview a beta version within a week and we hope to have it on the web sometime in the near future (fall?).

  • (09/10/03) - We have updated our North American maps for the Plecoptera and Trichoptera after checking the collection at the USNM Smithsonian Institution. A total of 63 stonefly maps and 180 caddisfly maps have been updated. There are siginifcant additions for some species. Also, a couple of our mayfly movies were unavailible for a time but are now functioning once again.

  • (05/--/03) - We have numerous species of caddisflies and stoneflies with maps on the web site that have incomplete location/collection data, such as: no date, no site, or no male/female designation. Therefore we cannot put them in our Access Database. We need your help to collect these species and provide complete collection information. Click HERE for a list of caddisfly problems. Click HERE for a list of stonefly problems. If you have any questions please email e11@psu.edu, and include "Website database collection assistance" in the subject line.

  • 04/--/03) - Approximately 70 maps have been updated from three sources. Oliver Flint visited the Carnegie Museum of Natural History in Pittsburgh, PA and identified a significant amount of unidentified material in the family Uenoidae (TRICHOPTERA). R. Edward DeWalt at the Illinois Natural History Survey in Champaign, IL provided a list of the PLECOPTERA from Pennsylvania in their collection. During editing of the caddisfly and stonefly searchable database several corrections were found. After consultation with Bill Stark it was decided to remove Tallaperla elisa and Tallaperla anna from the stonefly list until positive verification can be made for these two species. All of these changes are now incorporated in the web site.

  • (2002) - We have added 3 new mayfly movies to our collection and we have added a county search function to both the Caddisflies and Stoneflies, use the links in the navigation bar to find it. We are also well on our way to having a very detailed database of all collection sites and date of occurrence in Pennsylvania. CD Database Survey
